Renewi chooses Fairphone for sustainable company phones
15 June 2023
Renewi employees in the Netherlands and Belgium take delivery of the Fairphone 4, with matching circular protective case.
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 15 June 2023 – Fairphone and waste recycler Renewi have joined forces to offer employees in the Netherlands and Belgium the Fairphone 4 as their company phone. The initial rollout consists of over 900 devices for future distribution within the organisation. The choice of the sustainable, repairable Fairphone 4 is in line with Renewi’s broader sustainability ambitions and vision, with its daily commitment to a transition to a circular economy.
John van der Ree, Business Development Manager of Fairphone, said: "We are delighted to partner with a company that is as committed to circularity as we are, and to provide their employees with Fairphone 4 as their company phone."
Fairphone had been on Renewi’s radar for some time, said Maarten Buikhuisen, CIO: "Renewi is committed to the transition to a circular economy, continuously improving sustainability among clients as well as within its own operations. Fairphone won us over with its sustainable principles that translate into at least five years of software maintenance and being able to repair hardware. This is yet another guarantee of longer use and therefore less waste. With these shared principles, it is a logical next step for us to introduce the Fairphone 4 to our employees at our sites in Belgium and the Netherlands."

The devices have a special protective case made from recycled materials from discarded refrigerators. These are called ‘CoolCovers’, and are made by recycling company and secondary raw material supplier Coolrec, a Renewi subsidiary, together with injection moulding specialist Injection Point.
