Renewi reached Advanced Level for the United Nations Global Compact

Renewi is proud to announce that it reached the qualification for the Advanced Level of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). Since 2018 the waste-to-product company has integrated the Ten Principles of the UNGC sustainability initiative into its strategy, culture and business operations. Our first time reached Advanced Level reaffirms Renewi’s commitment to furthering sustainability goals and supporting the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact.

Renewi joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2018. The company embedded the principles into strategies and operations, and committed to respecting human and labour rights, safeguarding the environment, and working against corruption in all its forms.

By being part of the world’s largest sustainability initiative Renewi puts in line business operations and sustainability strategy with the environmental, social and governance (ESG) needs to realise a sustainable future. Renewi wants to advance broader societal goals such as UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda to address the world's critical challenges.

In the excerpt from Renewi’s Letter of Continued Support, regarding the renewal of our annual commitment, our CEO Otto de Bont mentioned the following:

“We are honored to share some of the progress we have made illustrating our continued support to the ten fundamental principles as well as our long-standing commitment both to protecting the environment and to ensuring socially responsible practices:

In 2021:

• Building and sharing Renewi’s Sustainability ambition and our strategic focus and contribution to especially 6 of the 17 SDGs in our Sustainability Review,
• Putting 8.4m tonnes of materials back into reuse, increasing by 5% our previous result, with a recycling rate of over 67% (up 1.4pps),
• Becoming the first company in the recycling industry to sign the Talent to the Top Charter. By doing so, we commit to a relationship of more equality between men and women in the organization and to significant, measurable diversity goals which will be monitored every year.

This year:

• Reporting accordingly to the requirements of the Taskforce for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) for the first time,
• Updating our Code of Conduct in the UK,
• Establishing a Diversity & Inclusion Board, aimed at making Renewi an even more rewarding and inclusive place to work,
• And renewing our Modern Slavery Statement (done annually).”

Submitting an annual Communication on Progress (CoP) is at the heart of the commitment to the initiative. Hence, our Sustainability Review demonstrates Renewi’s progresses on the Ten Principles in each of the 4 areas (Human Rights, Labour, Environment, Anti-Corruption) to stakeholders.
