Renewi’s climate targets validated by the SBTi
28 September 2026
Renewi has received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its updated emissions reduction targets and long-term net-zero target. The validation confirms that Renewi’s climate ambitions are aligned with the latest climate science and the SBTi’s criteria.
The validated targets cover emissions from Renewi’s own operations as well as those generated throughout its value chain:
- 43.6% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by FY31, compared to FY22;
- 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by FY31, compared to FY23;
- Net-zero emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3 in FY50, representing at least a 90% reduction.
Scope 1 and 2 emissions cover emissions from Renewi’s operations and purchased energy, while Scope 3 emissions include emissions generated across the wider value chain, such as waste processing, transportation, purchased goods and services, and other upstream and downstream activities.
These targets reflect Renewi’s commitment to reducing emissions while supporting the transition to a more circular economy. As a waste-to-product company, Renewi already helps customers avoid emissions by keeping materials in use and reducing reliance on virgin resources. These targets focus on reducing the emissions associated with the company’s own activities and value chain.
From targets to action
The validated targets form an important part of Renewi’s decarbonisation strategy and achieving them will require action across multiple parts of the business. Renewi will continue to prioritise initiatives with the greatest emissions reduction potential, including measures related to operations, transportation, energy use and collaboration with suppliers and customers.
The SBTi validation marks an important milestone in Renewi’s decarbonisation journey and supports its ambition to reduce emissions across its operations and value chain while contributing to the transition to a low-carbon, circular economy.
