Sustainable concrete one step closer thanks to KOMO certification for FORZ®Filler
26 March 2026

FORZ®Filler, a circular construction material produced from soil and tar-containing asphalt granulate, has officially received KOMO certification for non-structural applications in concrete, such as paving slabs and non-load-bearing walls. The certification confirms that Renewi’s FORZ®Filler is a technically reliable alternative to natural raw materials in concrete and contributes to making the Dutch construction sector more sustainable.
Making concrete more sustainable without compromising quality
The construction sector faces the challenge of reducing the use of primary raw materials while at the same time lowering CO₂ emissions. Concrete plays a major role in this challenge, as its production relies on natural resources such as sand and gravel and involves energy-intensive processes. Certified circular construction materials can reduce this impact, provided that quality and safety are demonstrably assured. The KOMO certification of FORZ®Filler provides this assurance.
From research to practical application
ATM, part of waste-to-product company Renewi, produces FORZ®Filler by processing complex waste streams such as soil and tar-containing asphalt granulate into a mineral filler. To enable its use in concrete, FORZ®Filler underwent an extensive and independent research and assessment process. This included evaluation of material behaviour, stability and safety.
The certification, which applies to non-structural applications, enables producers of concrete products, prefabricated elements and mortars to use the material in contracts and tenders. In parallel, ATM is working towards additional certification for structural applications.
Faster certification needed to drive broader circular innovation
The Netherlands is moving towards a circular economy, with the construction sector playing a crucial role. At the same time, existing policy and certification frameworks do not always align with the pace at which new circular materials are being developed. Certification processes are often complex and time-consuming, while the societal urgency is high.
Piter Brandenburg, Commercial Director of ATM and CFS, part of waste-to-product company Renewi, said: “This certification proves that circular construction materials can meet the high standards required in the construction industry. It shows that sustainability does not have to come at the expense of quality or safety. To achieve our societal goals, it is essential that innovation and certification go hand in hand, with the market and policymakers working together. We therefore call on certification bodies, policymakers and clients to accelerate certification processes and create space for proven circular innovations, so that circular materials can already be fully applied in construction today.”
