Compost production at a higher level at Renewi Hoek van Holland

06 November 2025

Renewi is investing in a new compost screening line at its Hoek van Holland site. This modern installation, which uses the best available technologies, replaces the existing line and marks an important step forward in efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

From green waste to certified compost

Hoek van Holland is one of the greenest locations within Renewi. Each year, more than 200,000 tonnes of garden and pruning waste arrive here, largely from horticulture in the Westland region. In sixteen tunnels, this green residual material is transformed into high-quality compost products for farmers, gardeners and growers.

Smarter, safer, and future-proof

The new, fully automated screening line is designed with a focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability. It can process up to 60 tonnes of compost per hour and separates the material into three fractions: coarse, medium, and fine. These fractions are reused in the composting process or sold as end products.

“With this installation, we are taking a new step in modernising our sites. It demonstrates our ambition to process waste ever more safely and sustainably into something valuable,” says Marco Kalverda, Manager Organics at Renewi.
