Renewi continues to give cooling and household appliances a new life
20 November 2025

Renewi proudly announces the extension of its collaboration with Stichting OPEN, the organization responsible for collecting and processing e-waste in the Netherlands. Under this new agreement, Renewi will recycle approximately 30,000 tons of cooling and freezing appliances and 12,500 tons of small household appliances annually. This reinforces the company’s leading role in the Dutch circular economy.
Strategic waste streams for climate and the energy transition
Cooling appliances pose a significant climate challenge: proper processing prevents the release of harmful refrigerant gases and enables the recovery of valuable materials for reuse. Processing small household appliances and IT equipment is also essential to recover rare and valuable metals—resources that are indispensable for the energy transition. By reusing these materials, we reduce Europe’s dependence on imported raw materials and stimulate a local circular economy.
Renewi: recognized expertise serving circularity
With years of experience in e-waste recycling, Renewi leverages its industrial expertise and advanced facilities to ensure optimal processing of these complex streams. Cooling and freezing appliances are recycled in Dordrecht, small household appliances at Recydel in Belgium, and all plastics from e-waste are processed in Waalwijk into new granulates.
“We are proud to extend this collaboration. It confirms the value of mutual trust and long-term partnerships within the circular chain,” said Wim Pype, International Sales Manager Renewi E-waste.
“We are delighted to renew our partnership with Renewi. Together, we strive for a circular economy where maximum reuse—and therefore maximum material recovery—is central,” said Jan Vlak, Director of Stichting OPEN.
Thanks to this partnership, Renewi and Stichting OPEN strengthen their position as pioneers in the responsible management of electronic and household waste streams. By recovering critical raw materials and reducing CO₂ emissions, both organizations demonstrate that recycling is a concrete tool for the transition to a more sustainable economy.
