Renewi modernises its water treatment facilities in Belgium

14 July 2026

Renewi is implementing an ambitious modernisation programme for its water treatment facilities at several sites in Belgium. Through these investments, the company is reducing environmental risks, enhancing the operational performance of its sites, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Advanced technologies for a lower environmental impact

The new water treatment facilities being rolled out by Renewi are designed to meet stringent regulatory requirements. They combine best available technologies with improved energy efficiency and real-time remote monitoring, ensuring maximum reliability and control.

A standardised, proven and flexible approach

Although each site has its own specific characteristics, a standard concept has been developed for almost all locations. This concept is based on a core structure with various options and configurations that can be tailored to local conditions and available space. This approach ensures consistent operations, proven treatment quality, and simpler, more efficient maintenance.

Phased rollout across Belgium

The new facilities are already operational at the sites in Mol, Kampenhout and Evergem. Other locations, including Turnhout, Châtelet, Villerot and Seraing, are currently in the planning or implementation phase.

"By investing in scalable and intelligent technologies, we are creating the conditions to operate more efficiently while reducing our environmental footprint. The modernisation of our water treatment facilities is also part of a broader vision: preparing our sites for tomorrow’s environmental standards and further strengthening our position as a leader in the circular economy," said Dieter Avonds, Director Processing at Renewi.
