Reducing our CO2 emissions

Our priority is a circular economy and giving new life to used materials, ensuring they do not end up in landfills or incinerators.

Investing in waste-to-product solutions presents both economic and social challenges. However, it is crucial to take action against climate change. Carbon reduction, or reducing CO2 emissions, is our top priority, fully aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Science-Based targets

Renewi submits its targets under the latest SBTi standard (5.3), which has been in force since September 2025 and aligns better with the reality of our activities. The updated standard offers a more accurate and more appropriate framework to substantiate our reduction targets and to report transparently.

We remain fully committed to science-based climate ambitions. In the meantime, we continue to work tirelessly to further reduce our environmental impact. We are investing in innovations that enable additional CO₂ reduction and increase our contribution to the circular economy. Examples include the further electrification of our fleet, new technologies that lead to lower emissions, and solutions that further improve the quality of circular materials.

Our path to decarbonisation

We are focusing on reducing the carbon intensity of our collection and operations with targeted measures:

  • More sustainable waste collection: increasing the share of EURO-6 and electric trucks in our fleet.
  • Energy consumption:in our operations, we aim to use 100% renewable electricity on-site.
  • Sustainable transport: increasing the share of hybrid and/or electric company cars.
  • Innovation: researching carbon capture technologies to reduce process emissions.
